Water Project 2021

In January, Ravenswood’s City Maintenance Department began the process of exchanging old water meters for new meters for all City water customers.  These new meters will be “radio read” meters.  The city meter reader will simply drive by in his vehicle to get monthly usage reads. This will ensure accurate reads while streamlining the process.

Customers may experience temporary water outages for 10-15 minutes.  There have been rare underlying cases of bad valves or possible rust.  If that does occur; the maintenance department will immediately focus on the repair.

Meter changes will go throughout the summer and possibly into the fall.

Next, will be upgrades to the water plant.  Current pumps date from the 1970’s.  Scheduled improvements will bring more technology and reliable service to our water customers.  Bids for this project should begin in the summer months.  The City anticipates no service interruptions.  Be on the lookout for crews as they install new shut off water valves under City streets.  This means that water leaks can be isolated--resulting in few service interruptions and timelier repairs.

Water storage tanks (three) will be upgraded.  The exterior will be sandblasted, primed, and painted.  Rusted areas will be repaired.  Overgrown vegetation surrounding tanks will be removed. Fencing will be installed to secure the storage tanks.

Interiors of the tanks will be cleaned and sanitized.  Machinery will be installed to circulate the water in the tanks and ensure quality and freshness.

2021 is proving to be an important year for the City of Ravenswood’s Maintenance Department.  We are thankful for all involved.
